The Basics

GIFT IT, DON'T BRING IT.
What we buy is completely based around what our customers want... the GOOD STUFF! No flaws, stains, damage, broken items, outdated styles, etc.
We try our best to keep our shelves full of great items that shoppers will scoop up quick and keep coming back for more! This is the win-win situation we strive for here at Polkadots and makes everyone happy!
We are passionate about maintaining a fresh, clean, beautiful store that will keep our sellers and customers coming back, while continuously putting money into your pocket!
We also believe this encourages our community to consume less while taking greater care of what we do have. It's something we are working on doing better ourselves, as well.
So a general rule around here is this: if you wouldn't gift it, don't bring it! Your best stuff only, please.
Condition Guidelines
WASH. CLEAN. FOLD.
PACK. STACK.
In that order! All items must be freshly washed and impeccably clean! Please fold or lay clothing flat (NO HANGERS) and pack your items neatly in stackable (meaning stable, flat bottomed, square or rectangular) boxes or bins closed securely or with lids.
Be prepared before coming in! You MUST filter through and prepare your items BEFORE you bring them into the store. We are not able to give you cleaning supplies to clean your items once you are here.
All items must be in excellent to new condition and free from stains, holes, odors (smoke, food, etc), pet hair, structural damage/cracks, and any other flaws.
We only accept current, trendy styles of clothing! Please do not bring us clothing that has been stored away for years & years. At this time we do not accept vintage clothing.
We only accept these brands. Not these ones.
Toys & any items with pieces/attachments must have pieces contained in ziploc bags so that we can safely display them for sale.
RE-CALLED GOODS - You are responsible for checking for re-calls before bringing your items into the store. Many baby items are recalled each year & it is illegal for us to resell them unless they have repair kits already installed. Click here for a great resource in tracking re-called items.
You must show us that your electronic & battery operated items are in working condition. Please bring batteries so we can test them in store. (You are welcome to take your batteries back after the item is proven to work.)
Store Policies
PLEASE READ
Fast Cash
Our most popular payment service! This is where you sell your items straight out to us for cash (you may also choose store credit for a 15% bonus added to your credit, plus a 10% off coupon for one shopping trip). Easy peasy! No long term commitments, no waiting for your items to sell. We are able to take any season all at once, too!
Consignment
This is where we sell your items for you in our store. Consignment is by invitation/recommendation only and rarely do we accept clothing items on consignment. When we prescreen your items when you request an appointment, if we believe selling them on consignment will be a better option, we will recommend it. You do not need to choose consignment if you don't want to. Consignment is great if:

you have luxury or designer items

you want to earn 40%-50% of the selling price if items sell in our store

you have shoes/handbags/home/other goods that we'll price at $15 or higher
-
you want to be able to cash out your account balance at any time or leave it to use as store credit
-
you want to get back any items that don't sell
We cannot guarantee the sale of any items that are consigned, but we will do our best to sell them! If you do choose to consign any items, you will be required to fill out a Consignor Agreement in store.
How We Choose What to Accept
We cannot take the time to individually explain why we accepted or passed on what we did. In general, if we did not take one, some, or all of your items, it is because they either didn't meet our Condition or Brand Guidelines, isn't something that sells well for us or that we have too many of, or was something we could not authenticate.
Please, do not be offended! Passes happen to everyone, including our own staff! We have a system that works well for us, and we ask that you trust that we are going to take the items that will sell the best and earn you the most money.
Donations
Polkadots is very involved in local community charities and efforts, donating thousands of items each year and meeting the needs of the community due to poverty, fire or natural disaster, personal crisis, etc. However, we do not have the capacity to serve as a donation center. This means that we must ask you do not bring items you know will not qualify for sale simply for us to donate for you. We would end up in a sea of donations! If you want to reach out with questions about where to donate in the Capital Region, we would love to help!
Items We Do Not Accept
Anything that does not follow the above guidelines.
We do not accept:
Used Comforters
Used Mattresses
Used Electric Breast Pumps
Wedding Gowns
Men's Formalwear
Underwear that is not new with tags/in original packaging
Recalled items that have not been safely fixed with manufacturer recall kit
Drop side cribs (even if it has a recall kit installed on it)
Wedding gowns but we do accept some prom, evening, & formal apparel that is in style. We also accept some First Communion & Baptism pieces.
KNOCK OFFS such as handbags/wallets/sunglasses/clothing/shoes. We can be fined, shut down & even put in jail for selling items that are not authentic. We will always pass on them. Please do not bring them to us!
